Marita Pinkel was not only a mother of nine children and grandmother to sixteen, but had also been a tireless advocate and volunteer throughout her life. Pinkel advocated for children first, as a teacher, then supported her husband as he directed the founding of a children's cancer hospital and research facility. She was also involved in helping new mothers with breastfeeding, and even spent time helping women in incarceration. Later, Pinkel worked extensively on behalf of the mentally ill. Marita Pinkel had been a generous supporter through her award contributions. The Marita award is also supported by grand daughter Rachel and her husband Mathew Humbolt.
Frederick Siddondo Brig was a Mudhiero Primary alumnus and a community stalwart. He was the first son of the community to earn high ranking soldier status. Siddondo brought Nairobi 'buore ka major', and served on the school board. He was an avid fundraiser and believed in education. The math award presented by his family is to honor his place in the community and interest in mathematics and higher education.
Mary Constance Ojwanga is also a Mudhiero Primary alumnus. First and foremost, she was an educator and mother of six. For numerous years she taught mathematics and has since continued to support students at Mudhiero following her retirement. The mathematics award presented by her family is to honor her years of excellence as a math teacher, and her sincere passion for education and teaching.
The Brian Paddy Applied Agriculture Award is sponsored by Alison Robertson, a plant disease specialist, in honor of her father, Brian Paddy. Brian Paddy appreciated the wealth of opportunities that education provides us. Despite the fact that he never completed high school, he was an avid learner. He pursued a career in business, but his real love was agriculture. Paddy's greatest pride was growing vegetables and tending to his garden in Zimbabwe. This award supports the exemplary members of the cassava club, who have volunteered their time and effort to make the club a success.
This award is sponsored by Shawn Thompson and Atieno Ayeba, of Atlanta GA, passionate fitness enthusiasts. They would like to encourage any outstanding athletes with inspired the purpose of this award. Recipients of this award should be participants in a particular sport in the previous year, especially if they had an opportunity to represent the school in a sports event.
Steve and Mariah Walker present their Walker Award to hardworking students in need studying biological sciences. Steve Walker feels like students who show leadership qualities, community service and a spirit of volunteerism should be rewarded and recognized. Starting next year, the Walker family will be giving the TriBeta award specifically to honor society of biology. Students who excel in biology are permitted to participate
This award is given to Iyie Nyawanda is 13 years old.She attends Camelot Intermediate School. They have knights of the round table programme Camelot that builds students’ quest for success through character, achievement, creativity and service. Students can voluntarily take an active role in the community by identifying a need and planning what they can do.She chose to fundraise for this Awards by making beaded and rubber banded bracelets and selling them. This Award is given to a nominated student showing effort in school work and in the community.
Paul Anderson spent numerous years in Agricultural Science developing the technology needed to produce crops with higher yields and stronger traits. He retired as the director of the International Crop Improvement Institute at the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center in the United States. Barbara Anderson enjoyed volunteering at the Missouri botanical garden for numerous years on various boards. This scholarship honors students who show promise and/or academic excellence at the end of their first year at Mudhiero.
Sound education is the key to all human development. This us what Adalla Award believes in. Atansio Adalla's family delights in supporting the Sam & Hannah Obura Awards program at Mudhiero Secondary school. This is in continuity with the very foundation laid by our late father, Chrispus Adalla, whose role as a teacher of religious studies and an astute disciplinarian helped shape the Mudhiero school fraternity to citizenry with integrity to posterity. The Edah Mwake Second Chance Award was established to honor the life and legacy of Edah Mwake, a courageous individual who during her fight with cancer,experienced brief respite. A period she regarded as a profound second chance at life,allowing her to appreciate life a new and inspire those around her with her resilience and gratitude. The award aims to recognize and support individuals who have demonstrated remarkable resilience in life.It celebrates the spirit of perseverance and the value of second chances.
The Don Boyle Award is given to a student who exemplify kindness and self-sacrificing spirit in the community. The aim of this award is to encourage compassion and a love for giving back to the community. Don Boyle is a man known and appreciated in the community for his self-sacrificing spirit. He is never tired of helping others and works with his students one on one whenever possible.
Augustana University's TriBeta Honor Society has partnered with the Sam & Hannah Obura Awards program to support hard working students in financial need. This award is specifically directed to students interested in biological sciences. Through annual bake sales promoted by TriBeta members and several volunteer fundraising activities, the funds are raised and graciously shared with Mudhiero Secondary students.
The Vogelman Travel Award is presented annually to 2-3 students based on an application essay on how and why travel would be beneficial for the student. This award includes accommodation for two days and one night in Nairobi, meals included. Also included are visits to August 7th Memorial, Nairobi University, UhuruPark, Nairobi Arboretum, Giraffe Center and an amusement Arcade eg. at a Nairobi Mall Two Rivers Mall. This award was created by Ann and Jim Vogelman to support curious and adventurous students in developing an appreciation for travel.
The Augustana Biology Club has been partnering with TriBeta and the Obura family for the past three years in providing scholarships to students in need attending Mudhiero Secondary. The Augustana Biology Club's interests include partnering with others at Mudhiero Secondary, as well as sharing resources and information
The late Madam Florence was an outstanding English teacher whose dedication to students knew no bounds. This award is meant to recognize excellence in English and honors Madam Florence.
Lauretta Excelling female Award is set up in honor and memory of Lauretta who despite being a young mother herself,displayed a lot of courage and resilience and raised her children successfully.
The Sansgaard Cousins set up the Sansgaard Gerri Award in their endevor to honor their family name and support needy students who show resilience grit and determination to build themselves(Gerri)
Bridget Paddy (22 January 1971 - 8 April 2017) was the daughter of Brian and Christine and sister to Alison Robertson and Duncan Paddy. She loved life and was a great mother to her two sons, Dani and Dylan. Bridget worked as a preschool teacher in Harare, Zimbabwe and loved "her kids". She was an exceptionally creative teacher who loved the challenge of coming up with fresh ideas for lessons. She is remembered with much love.
